The governments of Somalia and Kenya are currently strongly supporting the leadership of the African Union, with the election expected to take place in February 2025.
Somalia’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Abdullahi Mohamed Warfaa, fully represented the Somali government at the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa today participated in the 22nd meeting of the African Union Peace and Security Council, focusing on the upcoming important election of the African Union’s top leadership scheduled to take place in February 2025.
Mauritania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chair of the African Union Peace and Security Council, Dr. Mohamed Salem Ould, presented a comprehensive report during the meeting, discussing the important upcoming election of the African Union’s top leadership.
Somalia has officially announced its candidacy for the African Union leadership for the years 2025 to 2029 and has made extensive preparations and readiness for the African Union election scheduled to be held in February 2025.
Ambassador Warfaa delivered a speech at the meeting, touching on many important issues, expressing high hopes that the Federal Republic of Somalia will be successful in leading the African Union and emphasizing the importance of including African women in leadership roles within the African Union and participating in upcoming elections.
He also emphasized the importance of the preparedness report presented by the council, highlighting the importance of providing opportunities to African women to become leaders within the African Union and participate in the upcoming elections.
The term of the African Union’s top leadership is four years, and it is expected that the upcoming election of the African Union Peace and Security Council will bring together the governments of Somalia and Kenya, which will be represented by Fawzia Yusuf Haji Adam and Raila Odinga.
