Responding to questions about the conclusions of the Advocate General of the Court of Justice of the European Union regarding the agricultural and fisheries agreement between Morocco and the EU, Mustapha Baitas indicated that Morocco reiterates its position that “the European Union, through its institutions and member states, must fully assume its responsibility for the preservation and protection of the partnership with Morocco in the face of political provocations and maneuvers.”

Speaking at a press conference after the government council meeting, Mr. Baitas added that the Kingdom has taken note of the conclusions issued on Thursday by the Advocate General of the Court of Justice of the EU regarding the questions submitted to it concerning the agricultural and fisheries agreement between Morocco and the EU.

“These conclusions are neither a ruling of the European Court nor a court order, but rather a document summarizing the opinion of the Advocate General on various aspects of the debated questions,” he specified.

The minister also considered it a contribution by the Advocate General at this stage of the procedure in anticipation of the next deliberations among the judges of the Court, pending the final judgment.

Furthermore, Mr. Baitas stressed that the Kingdom is not a party to this procedure, stating that the European Union, represented by the EU Council, is the party under scrutiny, supported by the European Commission and several member countries in defending the agreements with Morocco.

He also mentioned that some Moroccan professional associations have joined this procedure in support of the defense, including the Moroccan Confederation of Agriculture and Rural Development (COMADER) and the Chambers of Maritime Fisheries.
