The European Union (EU) has disbursed 150 million euros (about 506 million dinars) to Tunisia in the form of financial support, as indicated by the European Commission in a statement released on Monday.
This budget support of 150 million euros consists of a direct financial transfer from the European Union to the Tunisian Treasury in the form of a grant.
The disbursement of this financial support is part of the program to support macro-economic reforms in Tunisia (PARME), agreed upon by the EU and Tunisia in December 2023.
The disbursements of EU budget support are made based on the actual progress made in the implementation of structural reforms initiated by Tunisia.
This disbursement is intended to support Tunisia in stabilizing its macro-economic situation and in its efforts to improve public financial management and the business climate.
This support enhances the state’s capacity to ensure stable and inclusive growth, and confirms the EU’s commitment to supporting Tunisia in economic reforms in the current socio-economic context.
This support provided by the EU is part of the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding on a strategic and comprehensive partnership, signed by both parties on July 16, 2023 in Tunis, and contributes specifically to its first pillar dedicated to macro-economic stability.
This support demonstrates the commitment of the EU and Tunisia to work together to realize and implement the different agreed upon areas of work in the Memorandum of Understanding and its 5 pillars: Macro-economic Stability, Economy and Trade, Green Energy Transition, People-to-People Connections, Migration and Mobility.
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, stated: “The EU continues its commitment alongside Tunisia and disburses 150 million euros for support for economic reforms and financial stability. This is an important step in the framework of our agreement reached last year and a significant advancement in our partnership.”
