In the heart of the Democratic Republic of Congo, an alarming trend is emerging, where some politicians juggle multiple roles without true commitment. From presidency of senatorial commissions to positions as president of the bar association, and ambitions for government positions, these politicians shamelessly propel themselves into positions of power, leaving unfinished mandates in their wake.
Ambition is certainly a driving force for success, but accumulating roles as minister, deputy, senator, president of the bar association, and others, reveals an excessive political greed that hinders development and democracy. This practice erodes the people’s trust in their leaders and compromises the integrity of institutions.
Jean Bakomito Gambu, who has just been chosen by the nebulous “Grand Orientale” as a gubernatorial candidate in Haut-Uélé, has been a Congolese politician since 2019. He is also the president of the political, administrative, judicial, and human rights commission of the Senate since November 26, 2020.
He is also the president of the bar association of the Haut-Uele province since 2018, where he was re-elected for 3 years in 2022, until 2025. In 2024, he discovers a vocation for the governorship of the Haut-Uele with the help of the “Grand Orientale” nebula, a structure of cooptation among leaders for opaque political group interests, instead of the sovereign choice expressed by their elected representatives in the provincial assembly.
It is imperative to consider stricter control mechanisms to put an end to this culture of accumulating mandates, which only serves personal interests at the expense of collective well-being. The time has come to curb this frenzied race for power and restore a healthy and responsible governance for the good of the country and its citizens.
