The Congolese government and the African Handball Confederation (CAHB) have officially signed a memorandum of understanding aiming to organize the African Nations Cup (CAN) for Senior Women’s Handball in Kinshasa in November 2024. This signing marks an important milestone in the preparations for this major sporting event.
The signing ceremony took place on Monday, March 4th at the CAHB headquarters, in the presence of high-ranking officials from the Congolese government and the CAHB. The president of the CAHB, Mansourou Arémou, and the president of the Congolese Handball Federation, Amos Mbayo, put their signatures on the memorandum of understanding, thus sealing the commitment of both parties to closely collaborate for the success of the competition.
After the signing of the memorandum, Mansourou Arémou visited the twin gymnasium of the Stade des Martyrs, accompanied by Amos Mbayo and members of the Congolese Handball Federation committee, for a guided tour. This visit aimed to familiarize themselves with the existing facilities and discuss the necessary adjustments to host the CAN for Senior Women’s Handball under the best possible conditions.
The CAN for Senior Women’s Handball is one of the most prestigious competitions in the world of African women’s handball. It brings together the best national teams on the continent to compete for the title of African champion. Holding this event in the Democratic Republic of Congo demonstrates the country’s willingness to encourage the development of women’s handball and promote sports at the national and continental levels.
