The Republic of Congo will host the International Conference on Afforestation and Reforestation in June. Preparations were discussed during the exchange on March 5 in Brazzaville between the Minister of Forest Economy, Rosalie Matondo, and the EU Ambassador to the Republic of Congo, Giacomo Durazzo. From this meeting, it was confirmed that the European Union will participate in the conference.

The international conference will focus on the need for collective participation involving various stakeholders to define strategies to strengthen the fight against climate change through forest and agroforestry plantations capable of ensuring a safer life on the planet and the preservation of biodiversity.

The Congolese government had expressed its commitment to organizing this international conference on afforestation and reforestation during COP27 in Charm el-Cheikh (Egypt) in 2022. This event will take place in Congo after the summit of the three major tropical forest basins on the planet, namely the Amazon, Borneo-Mekong, and Congo, held in October 2023 in Brazzaville.
