These workshops were organized by the National Coordination of Farmers’ Organizations in collaboration with the Association of Professional Farmers’ Organizations (AOPP).
The meeting was chaired by the 1st Deputy Prefect of the Circle, Amadou Gassambé, in the presence of the mayor of the Rural Commune, Boba Abed Négo Dakouo, representatives of village land commissions and representatives of technical services such as: the Livestock Production and Industries SLPIA, the local Water and Forestry service, the veterinary service and the agriculture service.
The mayor and the Prefect both gave welcoming remarks to the participants and encouraged everyone to participate more to achieve the assigned objectives.
Following the official opening ceremony, the discussions focused on presenting the objectives, the action plan for 2024. Other presentations included access to agricultural land for individuals and rural communities, the major innovations of the LFA, the principles of setting up a COFO, the operating procedures of the village land commission or subcommittee, the missions of the Cofo, among others.
The project to support the securing of land and forest tenure of communities by village land commissions CoFoV in Mali, led by the National Coordination of Farmers’ Organizations of Mali CNOP-Mali, started in January 2019.
It is structured around securing land and forest tenure of local communities, preventing and resolving conflicts through the village land commissions (CoFoV) system, with upstream training for the adoption of provisions of the Agricultural Land Law (LFA) by local communities, the public administration, technical services and local authorities.
This first phase achieved satisfactory results. Therefore, the International Fund for Land and Forest Tenure agreed to finance a second phase of three months from July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2026 with a two-year results consolidation period.
As part of the implementation of this phase, the CNOP signed a partnership protocol with the Association of Professional Farmers’ Organizations of Ségou (AOPP-Ségou) to ensure the realization of activities of the project in the region of Ségou.
To ensure the successful execution of activities, it is necessary to inform and clarify the responsibilities and roles of each party involved. Thus, the regional AOPP organized introductory communal workshops.
These workshops will allow the project to be understood through sharing its content and clarifying the roles and responsibilities of the actors involved, including administrative authorities, local authorities, decentralized technical services of the State, communities, among others, and to identify and validate sites for the local agreement and reforestation. This site identification exercise concluded this workshop.
