In a press release, the Chad Bar Association informs that it is closely following the “evolution of the political and security situation in the country and especially in the capital Ndjamena in recent days; notably the situation followed by a rampage at the National Security Agency (Anse) and an assault on the headquarters of the Socialist Party Without Borders (Psf) and its illegal demolition”.
The Chad Bar Association condemns these “acts of extreme violence that have resulted in several loss of lives, including that of Yaya Dillo Djerou Betchi, President of the Psf, injuries to individuals, and arrests”. The Bar Association expresses its outrage at these tragic events, offers its condolences to all grieving families, and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured individuals.
Chadian lawyers remind everyone, including the Transition authorities, that respect and submission to the law is the only guarantee of a true rule of law. They demand that light be shed on these events and that judicial action be taken, despite many situations and events remaining unresolved judicially.
The Chad Bar Association demands respect for procedural rules, the principle of presumption of innocence in all circumstances, respect for rights and freedoms, genuine independence and impartiality of the judiciary.
