On Thursday, February 21st, the ceremony for the laying of the foundation stone for the construction of the Faculty of Medicine at the Catholic University of Congo/Campus Mont Ngafula was organized by Mrs. Nyange, a member of the UCC Board of Directors, in the presence of several Catholic personalities and institutions.

The aim is to build new buildings to house the medical faculty that will propel this alma mater to the same level as others. The Rector of the University, Professor Abbot Léonard Santedi Kikumpu, expressed his satisfaction in blessing the Lord who allows great things to happen in the lives of his children despite their weaknesses.

“I bless the Lord because it is He who gives us, frail beings that we are, the ability to produce works,” he praised the Eternal, while thanking the different personalities and Catholic institutions present. Among them, the organizing authority of the University of Congo, the president of the National Episcopal Conference of Congo, and the permanent committee of the Bishops.

He also mentioned Monsignor Fulgence Mukeba, president of the UCC Board of Directors represented on this occasion by Mrs. Marie Nyange, economics professor at the University of Kinshasa, and Professor Feltz, former professor at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Kinshasa, currently a member of the Health Council in Belgium.

With a vision to do better and produce quality work, the abbot Rector of the University always puts the Lord at the center of all his achievements.

Continuing, he said: “It is the Lord who would like the Catholic University of Congo, aiming for excellence, to also have quality infrastructures to produce quality work.”

When asked for details on the cost and duration of the works, he mentioned that they will take 18 months, including the video conferencing system and networks, with a total cost of around six million US dollars.

As a guest of honor at the ceremony, the Commercial Bank of Congo (BCDC), one of the partners of the UCC, was represented by Mrs. Nancy who, in her address to the audience, expressed her honor for the choice made towards her institution and assured that they are committed to impacting lives and offering opportunities for wealth creation and transforming human lives.

Regarding the capacity of these buildings, engineer Jean Tsaka indicated that the buildings, which will accommodate up to 3,000 students, will include three auditoriums with a capacity of 340 seats each, three auditoriums with 370 seats, four others with 120 seats, and two with 140 seats.

In addition, there will be administrative offices and other compartments that will contribute to the emergence and promotion of modernity.
