The Government of Burkina Faso has been informed of a serious traffic accident that caused the death of several Burkinabe citizens on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, on the Sikasso-Bougouni axis in the Republic of Mali.
Upon hearing of the tragedy, the Government dispatched officials to the scene to assess the situation with Malian authorities and provide the initial support.
According to initial reports, this accident involved a public transport vehicle, and the provisional toll stands at 40 deaths and over a dozen injuries, including critical cases immediately taken care of by the health services of the Sikasso municipality.
In these tragic circumstances, the Government extends its sincere condolences to the grieving families and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured.
The Government of Burkina Faso takes this opportunity to once again express its gratitude to all Malian authorities for the outpouring of solidarity shown during this tragedy that challenges our collective consciousness about the need to reinforce vigilance and caution on the roads.
