American Vice President Kamala Harris has called for an “immediate ceasefire” in the Gaza Strip, putting pressure on Israel which continues to tirelessly fight the Hamas in the Palestinian territory threatened by famine.
She added that the ceasefire would allow for the release of hostages and the entry of a significant amount of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Harris explained in her speech in Alabama, held on Sunday, that the United States’ commitment to Israel’s security continues and that Hamas must be eliminated because of the threat it poses to Israel.
“Given the extent of immense suffering in Gaza, a ceasefire must be concluded immediately,” pleaded the American Vice President.
Harris stated that the ceasefire would allow for the release of hostages and the entry of a significant amount of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been conducting a deadly offensive against the Gaza Strip, causing tens of thousands of victims, mostly women and children, according to Palestinian and UN reports.
For the first time since its creation in 1948, Israel is accused of genocide before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the highest judicial body of the United Nations, due to its military operations in Gaza. An ICJ ruling in January ordered Tel Aviv to prevent the commission of acts that could be considered genocidal and to take measures to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza civilians.
