Preparations for the much-anticipated 19th Oil and Gas Games are in full swing as organisers strive to ensure that the venues are ready to welcome teams from various oil and gas companies to the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja. Set to take place from April 21 to 27, the 2024 National Oil and Gas Games will see companies such as NNPC, Shell, Total Energies, NCDMB, NMDPRA, NUPRC, ARADEL, Oando, SEPLAT, NLNG, Chevron, PTI, and ExxonMobil compete in a total of 13 exciting events.
The sporting disciplines that will feature in the games include athletics, golf, chess, football, table tennis, tennis, squash, badminton, swimming, basketball, volleyball, eight-ball pool, and scrabble. The highlight of the closing day’s events will be the finals of the men and women’s 100 and 200 meters dash, the 4×100 meters relay, and the much-anticipated final football match between NCDMB and NLNG.
The road to the football final has been intense, with NCDMB securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over NNPC in the semi-finals, earning themselves a spot in the championship match. NLNG also booked their place in the final by defeating NMDPRA by the same margin in the other semi-final. The stage is now set for a thrilling showdown between these two formidable teams.
One of the standout competitors expected to shine in the table tennis competition is Joe Adebayor, representing Team NCDMB. Adebayor has shown dedication and commitment to his training, having relocated to Lagos to train rigorously at the knock-up hall of the National Stadium in Surulere. Speaking about his aspirations for the competition, Adebayor stated, “We are focused on putting our best foot forward and winning medals for our company. That’s why I am putting in the hard work during my training sessions in Lagos.”
