Sunshine Stars FC of Akure made headlines yesterday as the management announced the dismissal of head coach Edith Agoye and his three assistant coaches. The decision was announced by Ondo State Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Bamidele Ologunloluwa, during a meeting with the team in Akure.

The assistant coaches who were also let go are Akin Olowokere, Banjo Adepoju and Folorunsho Stephen. The decision to sack the coaching crew came after a string of poor performances and multiple ultimatums given to the coaching staff by the management. Ologunloluwa expressed his dissatisfaction with the team’s performance and stated that he would not wait for the team to be in a relegation battle before taking action.

“The mandate given to the team has not been met, even with all the support I gave to the coaching crew, but it is unfortunate that it has to come to this,” said Ologunloluwa. He emphasized that business will not continue as usual and made it clear that he is not interested in fighting against relegation any longer. The decision to dismiss the coaching crew was not taken lightly, but Ologunloluwa stressed that the job of a technical crew is based on performance and results.

In response to his dismissal, Agoye thanked the commissioner for the opportunity to lead the team and expressed his well wishes for the team’s future. “I can only wish the club all the best going forward and I wish the coming coach the best of luck,” said Agoye.

It was reported by NAN that Sunshine Stars currently occupy the 12th position on the log with 22 points from 19 matches. With the coaching staff now let go, all eyes are on the management as they search for a new direction for the team.
