On March 24, 2024, in Port Sudan, Sudan’s Coordination of Civil Democratic Forces, also known as Tagadum, took a bold step to address the deepening humanitarian crisis in the region. They launched a campaign aimed at garnering international support and exerting pressure on warring parties to allow access for humanitarian aid.
The leader of Tagadum, Abdallah Hamdok, characterized the crisis as “indescribable” and labeled it as the “largest humanitarian disaster currently unfolding in the world.” He stressed the urgent need for international attention, expressing that the Sudanese people cannot afford to wait for global recognition of their dire situation.
Hamdok called on all Sudanese citizens to lobby the warring factions for a ceasefire and facilitate the unimpeded flow of humanitarian assistance. He lauded the unwavering efforts of emergency committees, service groups, and various organizations operating under hazardous conditions in the midst of conflict.
The primary goal of the campaign is to mobilize collective international and Sudanese efforts to bring an end to the hostilities and establish secure routes for the delivery of essential aid. Tagaddum has put forth a comprehensive humanitarian aid document that outlines strategies to alleviate the adverse effects of the ongoing war.
Some key points from Tagadum’s vision include coordinating and networking humanitarian initiatives to provide essential supplies to citizens, with a particular focus on displaced individuals, refugees, and those trapped in conflict zones. The coalition has also committed to advocating for the establishment of humanitarian corridors in areas affected by conflict and ensuring active civilian involvement in peaceful initiatives aimed at halting the war.
Furthermore, Tagadum has proposed enhancing collaboration among aid agencies and activists, while also calling for an increase in international funding for humanitarian efforts in Sudan and a boost in media coverage to draw attention to the crisis.
In conclusion, Tagadum’s campaign represents a crucial step towards addressing the dire humanitarian situation in Sudan. By rallying domestic and international support, the coalition aims to alleviate the suffering of those affected by the conflict and create pathways for the delivery of vital aid. Through their concerted efforts, Tagadum hopes to bring about positive change and ultimately pave the way for a more peaceful and stable future for the people of Sudan.
