On March 24, 2024, Malik Agar, Deputy Chairman of Sudan’s Sovereign Council and leader of the SPLM-Revolutionary Front, made remarks in Kosti, White Nile State, regarding the ongoing conflict with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Agar expressed skepticism about the possibility of a peaceful resolution to the conflict and instead focused on the military readiness and potential for a military operation against the RSF.

During his tour of the Blue Nile, Sennar, and White Nile regions, Agar assessed the security and humanitarian conditions in the area. He also inspected the army’s readiness for a potential military operation against the RSF in Al-Jazeera state, which they have controlled since December 2023.

Speaking to soldiers and officers of the 18th Infantry Division in Kosti, Agar expressed confidence in the armed forces’ ability to swiftly resolve the conflict with the RSF. However, he acknowledged that the likelihood of a peaceful resolution was diminishing. He called on the army and other regular forces to advance on all fronts and contain the “rebel militia,” emphasizing the threat they pose to Sudan’s unity and future.

Agar, drawing on his 40 years of military experience, advocated for a military solution to the conflict, followed by post-conflict reconstruction led by legitimate political representatives. He criticized “inexperienced politicians and activists flitting around international capitals,” emphasizing the need for strong leadership in the reconstruction process.

Dismissing the RSF’s claims of fighting for a return to the 1956 Sudanese state and democratic transformation as propaganda, Agar emphasized the importance of building a modern Sudan, promoting positive change among its citizens, and creating a peaceful coexistence. He urged the 18th Infantry Division leadership to secure the border and open the El Obeid road, allowing for the military to restore peace in Darfur.

In conclusion, Malik Agar’s comments in Kosti highlighted the significance of military readiness and action in addressing the conflict with the RSF. While he acknowledged the challenges ahead, he remained committed to securing Sudan’s future through a strong military response followed by reconstruction led by legitimate political representatives.
