Stop chasing investors away, Bukenya slams bribe-seeking officials

Former Vice President, Prof Gilbert Bukenya, has urged government officials to stop extorting money from foreign investors, warning that the practice is scaring away investment and slowing Uganda’s development plans.

Speaking during a tour of A1 Manufacturing Uganda Ltd, a plastic recycling plant in Gombe on Monday, May 25, Bukenya said the habit of officials demanding bribes instead of offering guidance is damaging.

“Some government workers visit such factories and find mistakes but instead of offering guidance, they instead ask for money which is not good at all,” he said….
