After suffering a devastating 4-1 defeat to Inter Lagos FC, the management of Warri Wolves FC has decided to ask coach Jolomi Alli to step aside. This defeat, which occurred at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Arena in Onikan, is the worst that the club has experienced in recent years.
The team had high hopes of securing a spot in the elite Premier League at the end of the season, and their loss in Lagos was a major blow to those aspirations. In response to this disappointing outcome, Chairman Nevile Ambekederemo informed The Guardian that he has instructed Jolomi to step aside until further notice. He has also communicated this decision to Chief Tonobok Okowa, the Chairman of the Delta Sports Commission. In the meantime, assistant coach Austin Johnney will take over the coaching responsibilities until a new coach is appointed.
Jolomi had only joined Warri Wolves from Akwa United in October of 2022, and the team was in sixth place on the table prior to their defeat in Lagos. Governor Sheriff Oborovwore had recently resolved the club’s financial issues and was anticipating a strong performance from the team. However, the setback began just before the Christmas break when they lost at home to Giant Brilliars FC at Kwale Stadium.
Warri Wolves’ next match is scheduled against Gateway FC on January 28 at the Kwale Stadium, followed by a match against Trade Safe FC in Lagos on February 3. The team will be looking to bounce back from their recent defeat and secure much-needed victories in these upcoming matches.
