The national government has implemented measures to address the insecurity in public schools caused by attacks on teachers due to poor performance in national exams. These measures include collaborating with the National Intelligence Service to provide security to all schools and ensure the safety of teachers and students. The Ministry of Education also warned that it will not protect incompetent teachers and that teachers must deliver to the expectations of Kenyans.

In response to recent attacks on teachers, the government has urged parents who are not satisfied with a school’s performance to follow the right procedures in dealing with the issue, rather than taking matters into their own hands. The government has also expressed concern over the unfair targeting of teachers when examination results do not meet parents’ expectations, emphasizing that academic performance is the cumulative effort of all stakeholders.

The Basic Education Principal Secretary has indicated that Form One enrollment is currently at 87 per cent, and the state aims to ensure a 100 per cent transition to secondary school. The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has also announced plans to deploy 17 teachers to a school where teachers were forcefully ejected, in order to expedite the resumption of teaching and learning activities.

Political leaders have also committed to ensuring teachers are accorded a safe environment and have promised to sensitize parents and learners on proper channels of airing grievances. The TSC has expressed willingness to take appropriate action against teachers who fail to meet the required standards, and the Education Cabinet Secretary has criticized the withdrawal of teachers from a school, emphasizing the right of every child to free and compulsory basic education. Overall, the government is working to address the issues surrounding teacher performance and safety in public schools.
