Nigerian tennis has the potential to dominate the world stage if the Federal Government provides support for the development of the sport at the grassroots level, according to Thompson Ewetuga, the Technical Director of Vision 2020 International Tennis Academy. Ewetuga emphasized the importance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s support for the program, both morally and financially, in order for the sport to grow. He also revealed plans for a tennis development program set to take place at the National Stadium in Lagos.

Ewetuga explained that the program aims to identify and nurture talented young players in the U-12, U-14, and U-16 age categories. Once these players are discovered, they will be provided with guidance and training from experienced coaches, with the goal of propelling them to stardom in the world of tennis. Ewetuga stressed the importance of securing President Tinubu’s support for the Vision 2020 International Tennis Academy proposal, which has been submitted through Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

In addition to his work in Nigeria, Ewetuga has also organized tennis clinics in other countries, such as The Gambia, where he has received support from figures such as Gede Mahendra and Eka Pradnyana, as well as other stakeholders. He expressed gratitude for their support and acknowledged their contribution to the academy’s efforts.

Ewetuga expressed hope that the tennis community will continue to show their support, and he emphasized the importance of receiving the backing of the Presidency for the upcoming tennis fiesta at the National Stadium in Lagos. He believes that with the necessary support and goodwill, the Vision 2020 International Tennis Academy can revolutionize Nigerian tennis.

The potential for Nigeria to excel in the world of tennis is significant, but it requires the right support and investment. By identifying and nurturing talented young players, providing them with the necessary guidance and training, and securing the backing of key stakeholders and government officials, there is a strong possibility that Nigerian tennis can reach new heights. The proposed program at the National Stadium in Lagos serves as an important opportunity to showcase the talent and potential within the country.

As the Technical Director of Vision 2020 International Tennis Academy, Ewetuga’s dedication and passion for developing tennis in Nigeria is evident. His efforts to engage with key figures and secure support for the academy’s programs are crucial steps in the journey towards revolutionizing Nigerian tennis. With the right support and investment, Nigerian tennis has the potential to make a significant impact on the global stage.
