The 2024 Ikeja Golf Club’s Veterans Cup held at the club’s course in Lagos was a resounding success, with Gen. Adedayo Adesokan emerging as the champion. Sponsored by ADL Solutions, the competition saw a total of 120 golfers participating, including 90 veterans aged 65 and above, and 30 guest players. Adesokan, with a handicap of 21, played an outstanding round with an 87 gross and 66 net to top the competition chart. Dr. Ogunbiyi Ogunbanjo finished in second place with a score of 91 gross and 68 net, also taking home the prize for the longest drive in the competition. Mr. Audu Asekome secured third place with a score of 117 gross and 68 net, while Mrs. Oby Olayemi emerged as the winner in the women’s category with a score of 74 net.
In the male guest category, Mr. Wale Ayanbadejo claimed victory with a score of 83 gross and 68 net, followed by Mr. Yomi Egbe with a score of 79 gross and 68 net, and Mr. Kehinde Afolayan in third place with a score of 87 gross and 68 net. In the female guest category, Mrs. Chichi Alamu emerged as the winner with a score of 85 gross and 70 net.
During the presentation ceremony, Mr. Sina Akinyemi, the Ikeja Golf Club Captain, expressed his delight at the enthusiasm displayed by the veteran golfers during the tournament. He also emphasized the need for new range poles and nets for the golf course, urging members to support this project.
Chairman of the Golfing Elders, Ayo Lawal, commended ADL Solutions for sponsoring the competition and expressed gratitude to all the participants for their contributions to the success of the event. He encouraged everyone to continue to be sporty and take care of their health.
The competition runner-up and longest drive winner, Dr. Ogunbanjo, encouraged young Nigerians to embrace the game of Golf, emphasizing that the older you get, the more you appreciate the game. He urged both the young and old to take up golf and enjoy its many benefits.
