In a letter sent in response to a question from the deputy of the Canary Islands, Cristina Valido, whose details are revealed by Europa press, the management of the existing airspace between the Canary Islands and Morocco has been the subject of two meetings held between Moroccan and Spanish authorities within the working group.
“A working group on air cooperation has been created, which has met twice since then, in order to improve cooperation between the two parties,” the same source said, adding that the discussions currently focus on technical cooperation, information and communication in airspace, as well as their safety and management.”
In March 2023, in response to a question from a deputy, Pedro Sanchez’s government had announced the start of negotiations on this issue, only mentioning “the management of airspace,” without mentioning the possibility of a transfer.
It should be noted that the seventh commitment of the joint declaration of April 7, 2022 states that “discussions regarding the management of airspace will be initiated”.
