“L’Espagne doit avoir les meilleures relations avec un voisin comme le Maroc. C’est une règle de la politique étrangère et de la politique d’Etat”, declared Mr. Albares on Tuesday at the Spanish Senate.
The head of Spanish diplomacy assured that “Morocco is a key partner in the fight against terrorism, in dismantling jihadist cells, and in combating irregular immigration, in addition to its importance for the Spanish economy.”
Trade between the two countries exceeds 21 billion euros, with over 17,000 Spanish companies exporting their products to Morocco, he argued.
Mr. Albares also highlighted the human ties between the two countries, pointing out that nearly a million Moroccans are settled in Spain and 17,000 Spaniards are living in Morocco.
He also recalled the visit on February 21 of the Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, to Morocco, and the holding of the High-Level Meeting (RHN) last year, the first in 8 years, which was marked by the signing of the highest number of bilateral agreements between Morocco and Spain.
