The Ministry of Trade and Industry, in collaboration with Prosperity Limited Company, has taken a significant step towards providing affordable food items to the citizens of Juba. The partnership has resulted in the opening of six branches across various locations in Juba, namely Hai Referendum, Konyo Konyo, New Site, Jebel Dinka, Munuki, and Sherkat. These branches aim to offer food items at cheaper and more affordable prices to combat the high cost of living due to inflation in the country.

One of the key initiatives of this partnership is to ensure that essential commodities are made available at subsidised prices for the citizens. For example, a 50-kg bag of maize flour is being sold for thirty South Sudanese Pounds (SSP 30,000) in these branches, as opposed to fifty-five South Sudanese Pounds (SSP 55,000) in the regular markets. This price difference can significantly impact the budget of many families who are struggling to afford basic necessities.

Kuol Daniel Ayulo, the 1st Undersecretary in the Ministry of Trade and Industry, expressed the importance of this initiative in a statement. He mentioned that the partnership between the government and the private sector is a short- and long-term solution to address the high prices of goods in the market, especially essential items. The plan is to extend this initiative to other states in South Sudan in the coming weeks, ensuring that more citizens can benefit from these subsidised prices.

Prosperity Limited Managing Director, Akoc Akuei Manhiem, also highlighted the company’s commitment to helping citizens during the current economic crisis. He announced that at least 100 trucks are on their way to bring in assorted food items into the country to meet the increasing demand for affordable goods. Prosperity Limited will start selling these subsidised food items from its stores in various locations in Juba starting on March 6, 2024.

The stores will be open every day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., providing ample opportunities for citizens to purchase essential items at lower prices. To access this service, individuals can contact the following branch locations for more information and assistance: New Site near the bus park (station), Hai Referendum near East Coast Petroleum Station, Gumbo Sherikat at Blue Nile Hotel, Kuburi Haboba opposite the Police Station, and Tombura Road near RPC Petroleum Station.

For any additional information or inquiries about Prosperity Limited’s offerings, individuals can contact the provided phone numbers for each branch location. This initiative aims to alleviate the financial burden on citizens during these challenging times and ensure that everyone has access to affordable food items. The collaboration between the Ministry of Trade and Industry and Prosperity Limited is a commendable effort towards supporting the well-being of the citizens of Juba.
