President Salva Kiir recently issued a directive to remove illegal structures surrounding the newly inaugurated Nile Petroleum Corporation Headquarters in Juba, in order to enhance the view of the area. The directive was communicated to the Governor of Central Equatoria State, Emmanuel Adil Anthony, during the commissioning of the building on Saturday, March 2, 2024.

During the commissioning event, President Kiir expressed his desire for the removal of squatters surrounding the building, emphasizing the need for a clear and unobstructed view of the impressive structure. He stated, “As you have seen, the building is very good, excellent, but in between squatters. This is the first thing anybody coming to this building can see. And because of this, I direct the Governor of Central Equatoria to move the squatters away from here.”

The call for the removal of illegal structures came after the Minister for Presidential Affairs and Chairperson of the NilePet Board of Directors, Bangasi Bakasoro, urged the Central Equatoria State government to reconsider its policies and allocate more land for investment. Bakasoro highlighted the importance of providing land for investors, stating, “I am appealing to the government of Central Equatoria, at this moment. Investors are coming. The government would like to invest in buildings, and infrastructure, but we can not get plots. So I am appealing to the government of Central Equatoria to please avail lands for investment if you need South Sudan to develop.”

Bakasoro criticized the Central Equatoria State government for not allocating sufficient land to investors, noting that the NilePet building should not be situated in a congested area. The authorities believe that the new office of NilePet symbolizes a significant investment in South Sudan’s developmental landscape, serving as a cornerstone of the nation’s infrastructural progress in East Africa.

The Managing Director of NilePet, Eng. Bernard Amuor Makeny, commended President Kiir and partners for their dedication and commitment to realizing the potential of the iconic building. The facility is designed to accommodate 200 offices for over 1,000 staff members and is considered a world-class masterpiece that took nearly a decade to materialize.

Overall, the Nile Petroleum Corporation Headquarters in Juba represents a significant milestone in South Sudan’s infrastructural development, showcasing the country’s commitment to progress and growth. With the support of government directives and the determination of stakeholders, the iconic building is set to elevate the nation’s stature in East Africa and provide a conducive environment for business and investment opportunities.
