The Governor of Warrap, Kuol Muor Muor, has taken a significant step towards promoting peace and security in the state by directing heads of security apparatus to conduct a peaceful disarmament campaign. The main aim of this initiative is to eliminate illicit firearms that have been a major contributing factor to communal violence and cattle raids in the region.

During a joint security briefing with heads of security forces in attendance, Governor Muor emphasized the importance of adhering to their mandate and following the rules of engagement during the disarmament exercise. He highlighted the need to prevent armed criminals from causing further havoc in the community and stressed that all unauthorized gun owners in Warrap State must relinquish their weapons.

The Governor also mentioned the implementation of the Warrap State Conflict Resolution and Sustainable Development Act (Green Book) into law on February 21, 2024. This legislation provides the state government with the authority to carry out a comprehensive peaceful disarmament process and establish a Special Court to prosecute individuals involved in criminal activities during the conflict. By utilizing the Green Book, Governor Kuol aims to re-establish peace and tranquility in the region.

The prevalence of small arms and light weapons in Warrap State has continued to fuel conflicts, cattle raiding, and instability, hampering socio-economic development and threatening the peace and security of communities. The recurring community clashes, property destruction, and loss of lives have resulted in the displacement of many individuals, leaving families food insecure and vulnerable to further violence.

Through the enforcement of the Green Book and the implementation of a structured disarmament strategy, Governor Muor is determined to address the root causes of violence and promote a safer environment for all residents of Warrap State. By removing illicit firearms from circulation and holding perpetrators of crime accountable, the state government aims to create a more stable and prosperous future for the region.

It is essential for all stakeholders, including security forces, community leaders, and residents, to support the disarmament process and work together towards sustainable peace and development in Warrap State. By upholding the rule of law and prioritizing the safety and well-being of all individuals, the state can overcome the challenges posed by armed violence and build a more cohesive and secure society for generations to come.
