Five members of the African National Congress (ANC) tragically lost their lives in a bus crash while en route to the party’s anniversary celebrations in Magoebaskloof, Limpopo. Mashao Setabola, Mosima Makganyoga, Mapula Rakubu, Margaret Rakubu, and Bertha Mafomo were laid to rest at three different cemeteries in Botlokwa. The ANC community, including National Executive Committee members and provincial leaders, came together at the Eisleben Sports ground in Botlokwa to pay their respects to the departed.
The individuals who passed away were celebrated as dedicated members of the ANC, with family representative Sello Seta Setabola emphasizing the profound love and commitment they held for the party. The families expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support they have received from both the public and the ANC itself.
One survivor of the crash, Mpho Morale, shared their recovery journey and expressed appreciation for the caring and supportive leaders present at the funeral. The event was attended by members of the ANC National Executive Committee and Provincial Executive Committee, with Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula addressing the crowd. He emphasized the need to honor the memory of the fallen comrades and acknowledged the challenges facing the ANC, highlighting the hope and dedication embodied by the victims.
The funeral service shed light on the magnitude of the loss and the significance of unity in the face of adversity. While ten individuals injured in the crash continue to recover in the hospital, the ANC community came together to mourn, commemorate, and honor the lives and contributions of those who passed away. The event was a poignant reminder of the resilience, strength, and solidarity that define the ANC and its members.
