After a prolonged break without National Basketball League action, the UCU Canons faced off against Namuwongo Blazers, marking their return to competition after close to a month. The last time the university side had played was on March 3 when they secured a victory against Our Savior with a score of 62-42.

The impact of such a long break on teams can vary – it can either be beneficial or detrimental depending on how the time is utilized. Kenyan center Peter Sifuma highlighted the positive aspects of the break, mentioning that it allowed the team to address their mistakes and gave injured players the opportunity to recover and return to action. Sifuma himself had an impressive performance, registering a double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds.

In their match against Namuwongo Blazers, the UCU Canons dominated from the start, leading throughout the game and eventually securing a commanding 65-53 victory. Led by the trio of Sifuma, Jimmy Otim, and Jerry Kayanga, the Canons maintained their lead and never allowed the Blazers to catch up. Otim contributed 17 points, four rebounds, and four assists, while Kayanga added 10 points to the team’s winning effort.

Despite attempting a fightback in the third quarter, the Blazers fell short as the UCU side continued to excel on both ends of the court. The Blazers struggled offensively, with no player reaching double figures in scoring. Looking ahead, Sifuma mentioned that the team’s focus is now on the upcoming games, with four more matches left to play in the season.

With this victory, the UCU Canons improved their record to 5-2 and are set to face the defending champions, City Oilers, in their next game. The team will be aiming to build on their recent success and continue their positive momentum in the league.

In other National Basketball League results, Livingstone faced off against Power, JKL Dolphins played against KIU Titans, and UCU Canons competed against City Oilers, with an upcoming match between Nabisunsa and KIU Rangers. The final scores of the games included Nam Blazers 53-65 UCU Canons, JT Jaguars 61-55 Kampala Rockets, and KIU Rangers 97-42 Kampala University.

The UCU Canons are now looking forward to their next challenge against City Oilers as they strive to secure more victories and climb up the league standings. With a renewed focus and determination, the team is poised to make a strong push towards success in the National Basketball League.
