The most recent FIFA world ranking for women’s football has placed the Sierra Leone National Women’s team at the 141st position. This ranking reflects the period from August 2023 to March 2024, during which there were significant shifts in rankings due to 126 international matches being played worldwide. Despite this, the Sierra Queens experienced a slight decrease of 0.02 points from their previous score of 1060 points in August 2023, but they were able to maintain their position at 141st in the world rankings.
One of the reasons why Sierra Leone has been unable to move up in the rankings is attributed to their absence from CAF and FIFA-sanctioned competitions and friendly matches since August of the previous year. This lack of international exposure has affected their ability to accumulate points and improve their standing in the rankings.
Despite these challenges, Sierra Queens have shown significant progress in the African continental ranking. Nigeria currently holds the top spot among CAF member nations’ women’s national teams, followed by South Africa, Morocco, Ghana, and Zambia. Sierra Leone has been able to perform better than their Mano River Union counterparts, Guinea and Liberia, as well as surpassing 15 other nations within the continent.
On a global scale, Spain remains at the top of the rankings, followed by England, France, the USA, and Germany. It is worth noting that the Solomon Islands have seen the most significant improvement, climbing 21 places in the rankings with an impressive addition of 78.84 points.
Overall, while Sierra Leone may not have seen significant movement in the latest FIFA world ranking for women’s football, they have demonstrated progress in the African continental ranking. With a continued focus on participation in international competitions and friendly matches, Sierra Queens have the potential to improve their standing and compete with some of the top teams in the world.
