Shilling plunges past Shs3,900 as oil hits $109

The Uganda Shilling suffered its sharpest weekly slide in nearly two years, weakening beyond Shs3,900 against the US dollar as a surge in global oil prices sparked heavy dollar demand from fuel importers.

Forex market expert Stephen Kaboyo of Alpha Capital Partners said the local unit is moving in lockstep with crude prices.
