President Bola Tinubu has asked Vice-President Kashim Shettima to lead a presidential delegation to the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in Côte d’Ivoire. The information was conveyed by Mr. Stanley Nkwocha, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Communications, Office of the Vice-President, in a statement released on Saturday in Abuja. The Super Eagles will face the host country, Côte d’Ivoire, in a rematch at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan on Sunday, February 11. In the group stage, Nigeria secured a 1-0 victory over the hosts with a penalty from Captain William Troost-Ekong, and this match will reignite that memory.

Tinubu believes that Shettima’s presence at the finals, along with the delegation, demonstrates the government’s unwavering support for the team and its commitment to their success. “The Federal Government urges all Nigerians, both at home and abroad, to come together in support of the Super Eagles,” he said. The government also encourages all Nigerians to show their support and create a national wave of pride that will propel the team to glory.

Shettima had previously represented the President at the semi-finals when the Eagles had a thrilling victory over South Africa.
