Public affairs commentator Mahdi Shehu has condemned Senate President Godswill Akpabio for giving Nigerians abroad a false impression that the country has moved past hunger and hardship.

In a post on X, Shehu urged Nigerians overseas to ignore the Senate President and not be swayed by his claims.

Nigeria’s debt has reached N170 trillion and continues to grow. Come back home at your own risk,” he posted.

He highlighted that around 139 million Nigerians are facing severe hunger, and claimed that Akpabio is misrepresenting the country’s true conditions to the diaspora.
