The ‘HIV Aids Support Organisation’ (HASO) organized a forum on ‘Zero Discrimination’ on Friday, March 1st at the National Library of Seychelles. The aim of the forum was to raise awareness about discrimination in Seychelles. Among the speakers was Justin Freminot from HASO, who initiated the discussion in the afternoon.
Freminot expressed his satisfaction that people were able to attend the forum to discuss discrimination, which is a prevalent issue in the country. He also urged participants to pay attention to the information shared during the forum so that they could become individuals who help reduce discrimination.
In an interview with the Seychelles NATION, Freminot emphasized the importance of ensuring that everyone has the right to good health and protection of their human rights. He hoped that the forum would contribute to the development of policies and laws that protect individuals from discrimination in the country.
Freminot also highlighted the reason for inviting individuals from all sectors to ensure that the message reaches every corner of the community. During the forum, there was a presentation on gender discrimination in Seychelles by independent consultant, Benjamin Vel. Vel began by introducing the definition of discrimination and providing statistics on discrimination in Seychelles along with potential solutions for action.
One of the attendees, Ernestine Biscornet, described the forum as “interesting” and emphasized the essential information shared during the event. HASO also plans to continue raising awareness on this topic with a similar session in collaboration with Seypec on Tuesday, March 5, 2024.
The forum served as a platform for discussions on discrimination and ways to address this issue in Seychelles. By inviting various stakeholders and experts to contribute to the conversation, HASO aimed to educate the population and promote a culture of zero discrimination in the country.
Overall, the forum on ‘Zero Discrimination’ organized by HASO provided valuable insights and information on the importance of combating discrimination in Seychelles. It highlighted the need for collective efforts to create a society where every individual is treated with respect and equality. Through continuous awareness-raising initiatives like this forum, Seychelles can strive towards a more inclusive and fair society for all its citizens.
