The Central Bank of Seychelles (CBS) recently awarded scholarships for the sixth edition of its Guy Morel High Achievement Scholarship Program. Aden Grandcourt and Keith Mondon were named as the recipients of the undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships for the year 2024. The ceremony took place at the CBS Building in Victoria, where they received their award certificates from Governor Caroline Abel.

Aden, who completed his Advanced Level studies at the International School Seychelles with impressive grades, expressed his passion for Economics and his desire to use this field to improve living standards and educate the public on its importance in daily life. He emphasized that economics is a social science rooted in choice and human rationale, and his goal is to promote greater public understanding to drive effective economic policies and financial literacy in society.

On the other hand, Keith, who works in the financial sector, will be pursuing a Master’s Degree in Data Analytics. He sees data as the new oil and aims to refine it to create impactful business insights. Having completed CBS’ Financial Education Youth Ambassador’s Program, Keith understands the responsibilities that come with this opportunity and is committed to contributing meaningfully to the financial sector.

Aden will be studying at the London School of Economics and Political Science, while Keith is still exploring his university options. Both recipients will begin their academic journey later this year.

Governor Abel praised Aden and Keith for their academic achievements and their commitment to contributing to the country’s financial sector. She noted the importance of building competencies in light of ongoing economic developments and commended the diversity of talent among scholarship recipients, with equal representation of male and female awardees.

The Guy Morel High Achievement Scholarship Program aims to close the skills gap in the financial sector by offering scholarships in various fields like Economics, Accounting, Finance, Law, Banking, Computer Programming, Information Technology, Statistics, Risk Management, Financial Technology, Cybersecurity, Financial Journalism, and more. The program received an increased number of applications this year, demonstrating its growing popularity and importance in nurturing local talents.

Since its inception in 2018, the scholarship program has seen outstanding results from previous scholars who are now actively contributing to the economy. Aden and Keith join this cohort of successful scholars and are poised to make a positive impact in their respective fields upon completing their studies.

The CBS remains committed to identifying and supporting local talents through this scholarship program and looks forward to seeing the continued success and growth of its recipients.
