The Central Bank of Seychelles (CBS) recently awarded scholarships for the sixth edition of its Guy Morel High Achievement Scholarship Programme. Aden Grandcourt and Keith Mondon were announced as the recipients of the undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships for 2024, respectively. The awards ceremony took place at the CBS Building in Victoria, where they received their award certificates from the Governor, Caroline Abel.

Aden Grandcourt, a recent graduate from the International School Seychelles, excelled in his Advanced Level studies with 3 A* in Economics, Chemistry, and Maths, along with an A in History. He expressed his passion for Economics and his desire to use it as a tool to improve the standard of living and educate the public on its importance in daily life. Aden is set to pursue his undergraduate studies in Economics at the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Keith Mondon, who currently works for a Securities Dealer, holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Finance. He completed CBS’ Financial Education Youth Ambassador’s Programme last year and will be pursuing a Master’s Degree in Data Analytics. Keith believes in the value of data and its potential to provide impactful business insights when refined. He is committed to maximizing the opportunity provided by the scholarship to contribute meaningfully to the financial sector.

Governor Abel congratulated both Aden and Keith, praising their academic accomplishments and their commitment to contributing to the country’s financial sector. She highlighted the growing interest in the scholarship programme and the diverse talents it has attracted, with a nearly equal proportion of female and male awardees. The Central Bank remains committed to identifying and supporting new areas of expertise in the sector.

The call for applications for the 2024 edition of the Guy Morel High Achievement Scholarship featured new subjects such as Computer Programming, Information Technology, and Statistics for undergraduate studies, as well as Risk Management for postgraduate studies. The Scholarship Committee, chaired by CBS’ second deputy Governor Jenifer Sullivan, noted the increased interest in the programme with a record number of applications received this year.

Since its inception in 2018, the scholarship programme has produced outstanding results, with previous scholars already contributing their skills to the economy. Aden and Keith join these ranks as they embark on their respective study journeys later this year. The Central Bank of Seychelles continues to prioritize the development of local talents and closing the skills gap in the financial sector through initiatives like the Guy Morel High Achievement Scholarship Programme.
