What is happening in the upper echelons of the Alliance for the Republic (APR)? Now the main opposition party, the SEN of the APR, released a statement on Sunday criticizing President Diomaye Faye’s cancellation of Macky Sall’s decrees. However, a few hours later, the same SEN of the APR contradicted this statement, accusing some of its members of manipulation.
Zahra Iyane Thiam, currently in Mecca to perform the Umrah, responded to the publication of the second statement from the SEN of the APR. The former minister promised to delve more into this matter after the Korité festivities.
“We will discuss this statement (the second statement from the SEN of the APR) after Korité. Let us remain in a time of reflection and spirituality. May Allah accept our devotions. May He grant us health, serenity, and protection for ourselves and our country. But for now, let us wait for Korité to pass peacefully,” she promised. This suggests unrest within the main opposition party.
To recall, this second statement from the SEN of the APR stated: “A statement dated April 7, 2024 and bearing the signature of the National Executive Secretariat of the APR (Sen) was made public. Which Sen is this referring to? When and where did it meet? In whose presence? This is manipulation by a guided group that does not represent the party. The primary obligation of the party in the current situation is to evaluate the March 24 election, determine the responsibilities for the defeat of its candidate, especially those of its president, and draw all necessary conclusions.”
It seems like there is internal turmoil within the APR, which is currently the main opposition party. The conflicting statements and criticisms of the party’s leadership suggest a period of uncertainty and potential power struggles within the organization. Only time will tell how the APR navigates through these challenges and whether they can emerge stronger from the current crisis.
