Indeed, in the finance law Number 2023-18 of December 15, 2023, the distinction is quickly made: according to the provisions of article 527 of the general tax code particularly on transfers, assignments, and other mutations, it is indicated that “the issuance of the passport and its renewal give rise to the payment of a stamp duty set at 20,000 CFA francs for the ordinary passport and 2,000 CFA francs for the special Pilgrim’s passport.

But in reality, after exploring the document from the Ministry of Finance, we can realize that the debate raised for a few hours concerns the duplicate of a passport. That is to say, in case of loss of one’s passport, the person will have to pay the amount of 40,000 CFA francs for the ordinary passport and 4,000 CFA francs if it is a special Pilgrim’s passport.

Therefore, the renewal or obtaining a new passport for the citizen remains at 20,000 CFA francs. However, if it is lost, double the amount will need to be disbursed.
