The Resistance Front “Fippu”, composed of F24, FC25, “Aar Sunu Election” and FDD, spoke to the press on Thursday to demand the organization of the presidential election before the end of the legal mandate of the President of the Republic, set for April 2. The representatives of the four entities emphasized the need for a democratic election with the participation of the 19 candidates recognized by the Constitutional Council.

At the beginning of the press conference, Cheikh Tidjane Dieye spoke, stating that this day was historic, a day that could make a whole nation proud, as it is a day of hope. He pointed out that the world had turned its attention to Senegal in recent weeks in the face of what he called an assault by Macky Sall against the Senegalese people, the constitution, and democratic principles. “We have shown the world that we are capable of reacting, we are a people of resistance, a dignified and standing people,” he said, emphasizing the importance of the national anthem sung in honor of the flag, words that, according to him, “have rarely had such impact.”

Continuing his speech, Cheikh Tidjane Dieye recalled a saying by Judge Keba Mbaye: “There is nothing without ethics,” while affirming that this ethics had disappeared under the era of Macky Sall. He emphasized that this was precisely what the opposition was denouncing. Furthermore, he stressed that the opposition would not accept a scorched-earth policy. “We will not let him destroy anything, and we will not give him a minute beyond April 2,” he affirmed with determination.

This statement from the Resistance Front “Fippu” comes at a tense time as Senegal prepares for a crucial presidential deadline. Calls for transparent and democratic elections are increasing, while international pressure mounts on President Macky Sall to respect democratic principles.
