On the political front, there is intense activity of mediation and negotiation aimed at obtaining the support of Karim Wade, former leader of the Senegalese Democratic Party (Pds), for the candidate Amadou Ba in the presidential election.
Despite not being qualified as a candidate by the Constitutional Council due to his dual nationality, Karim Wade and his party remain a significant political force capable of influencing the electoral outcome.
Amadou Ba, the candidate of the Benno Bokk Yaakaar (Bby) coalition, acknowledges the importance of the support of the Pds and its allies for his electoral campaign, as reported by L’Obs. Despite the criticisms and accusations leveled against him by some Pds members, Amadou Ba aims to expand his coalition and reaches out to the liberals for a victory in the first round.
Mediators, including prominent figures from the Pds, are involved in these negotiations, and even the President of the Republic himself seems to be engaged in this process. Macky Sall has shown interest in allowing candidates like Karim Wade to participate in the presidential election, but without success.
His planned visit to Touba is seen as an opportunity to explain the situation to the General Caliph of the Mourides and ease tensions related to Karim Wade’s disqualification.
