It is a surprising announcement about the amnesty law. Following its approval by the National Assembly and its promulgation by President Macky Sall, the amnesty law was officially published in the official journal on March 14th. However, this publication went unnoticed for such a impactful law.
According to information released on Monday by Enquête, this text aims to restore the civil and political rights of individuals who were deprived of them. Specifically, it allowed Diomaye Faye, recently elected President of the Republic, and Ousmane Sonko, now Prime Minister, to regain their freedom and campaign until their victory in the last presidential election.
Through this legislation, Macky Sall aimed to calm and pacify the political arena, with the goal of preserving national stability and strengthening unity in Senegal, making it more resilient and prosperous, while promoting solidarity, fairness, and the well-being of its citizens.
This amnesty applies to all acts that could be considered criminal or delinquent offenses committed between February 1st, 2021 and February 25th, 2024, both within Senegalese territory and abroad, related to demonstrations or motivated by political considerations, including those disseminated through any means of communication, whether or not the perpetrators have been judged.
The publication date was on April 8th, 2024 at 10:42 am. The article contains an image related to the topic discussed.
