Bassirou Diomaye Faye has won the major centers, including those of Dakar, Diourbel, Thiès, Mbour, among other polling places, according to the minutes coming from the polling stations, this Sunday evening.

In Touba, in the 610 polling stations of the holy city, the candidate of the Diomaye president coalition has crushed the other challengers. It should be noted that Louga, Kédougou, Mbour, Saint-Louis, and Kaffrine, which were previously controlled by Benno Bokk Yakaar, were not spared by the “Diomaye” wave. In Ziguinchor where his leader Ousmane Sonko voted, the trend is also favorable to him. The results of the vote in the Dakar region, which has nearly 1.9 million registered voters, propel the candidate Bassirou Diomaye Diakhare Faye well ahead. The same observation is made in Thiès, the second constituency in the country in terms of electoral weight. It is also worth noting that in the north of the country, the candidate of Benno Bokk Yakaar, Amadou Ba, has taken the lead in several localities, particularly in Matam and part of the Djoloff and in the Podor department.

While waiting for the overall results coming from the departmental vote counting commissions, it can be said that Ousmane Sonko’s heir apparent is on track to win this election. In fact, according to statistician Alphonse Thiakane, a consultant for Rfm, the Pastef leader would have received 56.7% of the valid votes, while Amadou Ba is left with 31.4%. Some 7.3 million voters were called to choose from 19 candidates, including one woman. The election is being closely watched, with Senegal being considered one of the most stable countries in West Africa shaken by coups.
