Responding to his detractors, especially regarding the future exploitation of natural resources, Bassirou Diomaye Faye assures, “There will be no curse of oil under my leadership.” According to him, some have a simplistic view of the curse of oil, automatically thinking of wars. However, he points out, “The real curse of oil is the Dutch disease,” which is an economic phenomenon linking the exploitation of natural resources to the decline of other sectors. “Under my leadership, the benefits of the oil and gas exploitation will be used to boost other economic sectors,” he adds. This will contribute to the creation of jobs that will allow the Senegalese youth to thrive.
