The Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Antoine Félix Diome, commented on rumors of a butane gas shortage in the market. He reassured that the gas is available, but it is the bottles that are difficult to find. This is a problem that his ministry and the Ministry of Commerce are currently working to address.

“In connection with my colleague from the Ministry of Commerce, we are closely monitoring this issue. There is no shortage of butane gas, there is a shortage of bottles. Butane gas, like all other hydrocarbon products, is evaluated in relation to the safety stock that must always exist in Senegal, and export authorizations are issued based on these authorizations,” he said during a dinner with the national press.

According to the Minister of Petroleum and Energy, this situation is partly due to difficulties related to “the interchangeability of these containers and the leakage of some bottles to the sub-region.” According to Antoine Félix Diome, there is a “high level of consignment or deconsignment in some neighboring countries.”
