Members of parliament are summoned tomorrow (Wednesday) to vote on the amnesty bill. An initiative of President Macky Sall that will be opposed by the victims of the events of March. In a newsletter addressed to the prefect of the department of Dakar, a peaceful demonstration with speeches is mentioned.
“Amnesty International Senegal (AI Senegal) and the collective of victims of the events of March 2021 are organizing a peaceful march with speeches on Saturday, March 9, 2024, from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm, on the route from Jet d’eau roundabout to the Liberty 5 terminus in Dakar,” reads the document.
The peaceful demonstration, to which human rights activists, political personalities, civil society members, and the general public will be invited, aims to “demand justice for the victims of the events of March 2021.”
The organizers plan for a session of speeches to take place at the end of the march, and a statement will be read and distributed to the press.
