The former Pastef party deputies finally voted against law n°05/2024 on amnesty. They joined their colleagues from the PUR and Taxawu Senegal, after abstaining during the proceedings in the Law Committee.
A reminder, the majority of the former Pastef deputies had asked Justice Minister Aïssata Tall Sall to clarify the offenses that would be covered by the amnesty law.
In this regard, the Justice Minister had cited the provisions of the draft law’s article 1 and stated that all criminal and correctional offenses that occurred during the protests between 2021 and 2024 would fall within the scope of the law.
The amnesty law was ultimately passed by 94 deputies mainly from the majority and the parliamentary group for Liberty, Democracy, and Change, against 48 deputies who voted no. Two deputies abstained.
