The Constitutional Council, which met on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, refrains from setting a date for the 2024 presidential election, despite the conclusions of the national dialogue. The seven wise men believe that “Setting the date for the election beyond the term of the current President of the Republic is contrary to the Constitution.”

However, they maintain the list of 19 candidates validated in their final list proclaimed before the postponement of the presidential election by the Head of State, Macky Sall.

Article 3: Article 36, paragraph 2 of the Constitution is not applicable in the event that the election does not take place before the end of the current term.
Article 4: This decision will be published in the official journal of the Republic of Senegal.
