More than 7.864 million voters from inside Senegal and the diaspora (over 300,000 spread across fifty countries) will be able to vote this Sunday to elect the fifth president of the Republic. “Senegal is greater than us and no actor should forget that. In a country like Senegal, we will one day be able to remove the passion from the organization of elections. Politics is exciting, but the best battle is that of ideas. That is the only argument that holds. There is life after elections. Senegalese people must come together to improve the process. When we want to build, we do not start by destroying.”
This was expressed by Mouhamadou Mactar Cissé in front of the press. The Minister of the Interior also assured of an organization in peace and serenity, but also a great transparency in the presidential election on Sunday, March 24.
“On Sunday, the Senegalese people will be able to vote in freedom and the greatest transparency. All operations have been set up. All acts are carried out under the framework of the law. There are standards, rules, and benchmarks that make us have an expertise that assures that the elections will take place,” he said.
Mactar Cissé recalled that the process was launched since the setting of the date on February 16, 2023. Since then, he said, the Directorate General of Elections has been working on the organization. “Senegalese people are used to voting and doing it well. This means that there is also a good tradition of well-organized elections. We owe this to those politicians who have succeeded each other at the helm of this country and to their collaborators in the broadest sense. This is to always guarantee the Senegalese people the integrity and freedom to choose in transparency.”
