Kora or any other musical instrument would not be out of place in this ongoing electoral process. A real game in which some candidates for the highest office of the state have engaged. Twenty-one in total have passed the threshold of citizen or parliamentary sponsorship.

Just a stone’s throw away from the presidential election on February 25, 2024, it would be appropriate to take a closer look at the profile of the candidates who have been propelled, acclaimed, or self-proclaimed.

Macky Sall, the outgoing President, has given the green light to Amadou Ba, who now holds the reins of power on the side of the presidential majority camp. The man has already clearly stated that he is the candidate of continuity in light of the political vision initiated at the beginning of the second alternation. The candidate of the APR and the Benno Bokk Yakaar coalition thus commits to continue the implementation of the Emerging Senegal Plan which, upon closer inspection, does not reflect the deep aspirations of the people.

Priority actions and emergency plans were the buzzwords during President Macky Sall’s tenure. The execution of priority projects initiated in 2014 was not enough to stimulate the country’s economic growth.

Unfortunately, the economic development strategy did not take into account a number of parameters such as demographic dividend, the potential hidden in the agricultural sector, and extractive resources, which alone could have driven Senegal’s economic growth.

Issues of good governance, weaknesses or even failures in fiscal and social policies, and the Senegalese people’s perception of justice, equity, and transparency in the management of public resources will be the main stumbling blocks for the APR/Yakaar candidate.

Let’s go back to the other figures who undoubtedly shook up the political scene. Legitimate questions must be raised in the public square about their real motivations. In the current context, Senegal should not be led by just anyone. We need a good profile, a wise, knowledgeable man, aware of the responsibilities weighing on him, the primary manager of public funds.

Indeed, among the candidates are former Prime Ministers, high-ranking officials of the state under the liberal regime now among the frustrated, surface foxes hoping to benefit from a last-minute chance to occupy the presidential seat, people who are largely responsible for the suffering of the Senegalese people and must be held accountable for posterity.

Candidates, men and women who, in the recent past, were part of the government machinery, should simply be sidelined. They plunged Senegal into a nightmare for over 60 years. All the candidates of power and the crutches of power who exacerbated the people’s misery are enemies of Senegal. They have a responsibility for the misery experienced by the people. Offside!

In the presidential race, there are candidates who understand the stakes, who embody the notion of pure patriotism, but struggle to express it or do so in a violent or inappropriate manner. Some of them lack the experience and political maturity to claim the highest office. They understand the real challenges of the time, grasp the messages of the populations aspiring for real change, but these figures have difficulty convincing on the international stage. Moreover, they fail to gain the trust of allied countries that, at the dawn of independence, maintain privileged relations with Senegal.

There are also in this group of candidates novices who are in the game and aspire to govern a whole people without ever managing anything in their lives. It would be delusional to entrust the fate of more than 18 million inhabitants to apprentice trainees who are ignorant of geopolitical issues and the rules of decorum in international relations.

These categories of candidates are not yet ready to govern a state and therefore must wait and learn more about the art of managing the City.

Bringing together the Senegalese in all their diversity is not an easy task.

And finally, there are candidates who, far from being offside, have entered the arena in this game with enchanting odes. Their glory in this presidential race lies in understanding the Senegalese people and presenting a well-thought-out strategic document that could propel Senegal into the category of prosperous countries.

Together, they have only a limited time of one month and twelve days to convince Senegalese people who yearn for justice, peace, freedom, and sociocultural values. The time has come to build a State that reflects and unites us.

The only reassuring, credible, unifying, hardworking, competent, experienced, honest candidate is number 1, the guardian of the Senegalese temple, Boubacar CAMARA Kamah.
