Diourbel, 27 Feb (APS) – The general strike decreed by “Aar Sunu election” (Protecting our election), a platform of civil society organizations demanding respect for the electoral calendar, was not followed in Diourbel (central region), where economic activity is functioning normally, observed by the APS.
At the Ndoumbé Diop market in Diourbel, the usual atmosphere prevails. All the places of commerce are functioning, with traders and customers going about their business. It’s as if they weren’t even aware of the call for a general strike and a general strike day by the “Aar Sunu election” platform to demand respect for the electoral calendar.
Found at his place of work, merchant Aliou Faye said he was not aware of such a call. “You know times are hard and we only have our business to support our needs. Observing a day without work for political reasons is not a good solution in my opinion,” he told APS.
At the entrance of the market, the carpenters are busy at work. They state that they were not aware of the general strike and the general strike day.
Unlike other sectors, the education system is paralyzed. Teaching is at a standstill in almost all secondary schools.
“At the Cheikh Mouhamadou Moustapha Mbacké high school, several teachers did not show up. Colleagues have decided not to teach today in accordance with the action plan of our Aar Sunu election member unions,” said a teacher who requested anonymity.
On the other hand, the Secretary General of the Unitary Framework of Secondary School Teachers (Cusems) of Diourbel, Modou Thiam, confirmed that the directive was well followed in Diourbel, citing information from various union leaders.
