The husband O. Diallo reportedly committed suicide due to the constant taunts, reprimands, and other immense pressures from his cousin, who was demanding his money. We now know more about the reasons why O. Diallo, in his thirties, ended his life after only three years of marriage. He was found hanging in his room just after breaking the fast. The tragedy took place in the Cheikh Gueye neighborhood in Touba Thiaroye.
What was the motive for the suicide? An investigation by L’OBS reveals that the deceased was pushed to the limit by his cousin. Pressured by her, who had lent him 200,000 FCFA, the deceased chose to end his life.
The incident dates back to last January. Wanting to marry F. Ba, Oumar Diallo confided in his cousin, who agreed to lend him 200,000 FCFA. He sent the amount to his parents to seal his marriage with his sweetheart on January 17, 2024. The husband then rented a room next to the family home and moved in with his wife.
Days passed, O., who had graduated from the D Series, had become a jack-of-all-trades, managed to save 100,000 FCFA, which he used to pay off half of his debt to his cousin. He promised to pay the remaining amount in the coming weeks but was unable to fulfill his obligations. This led to a strain in his relationship with his cousin as she grew impatient.
She kept calling him to demand the remaining amount and belittled him in the process. She even harassed him within the family home. Humiliated in front of other family members and his wife, Diallo cracked and threatened to commit suicide if he couldn’t pay the remaining amount.
His circle did not take him seriously, but he eventually followed through with his threat. When questioned, the cousin admitted to demanding her money back but denied harassing the deceased, despite the widow and other family members testifying otherwise.
Was it really a suicide by hanging or a disguised murder? A preliminary investigation has been opened by the local police to unravel the tragedy.
