The images are terrifying. The act is perfidious, but also cowardly because it is perpetrated against a lady. We wish a speedy recovery to the journalist Maimouna Ndour Faye (MNF).
It is also an opportunity to point out that we no longer recognize Senegal in these past 5 years, transformed into a jungle, into a dark dictatorship where the theft of public resources, corruption, political assassinations, disappearances, torture, political round-ups, repression with real bullets, censorship, cheating, the degradation of institutions, fake news, punctuate the daily lives of Senegalese people.
It has also become the Senegal of conspiracies and state plots in which:
1. Openly plan and execute judicial parodies against political opponents or activists
2. Hatch despicable, lurid, sometimes deadly plots against political opponents or activists
3. Plot crimes to be attributed to political opponents that they want to label as terrorists
4. Fabricate lies against honest citizens who denounce the abuses of the Party-State
5. Conspire against the population, tear up the constitution, to cancel or postpone elections
Unfortunately, all this is done with the complicity of a press that has become more inflammatory and sensationalist than ever before.
In view of the numerous reactions noted here and there following the assault on MNF, we cannot help but notice this much too suspect outrage on the part of certain people who claim to be attached to human life, freedom of opinion, freedom of the press, but who are nevertheless the same ones:
1. Who spit on the graves of the 85 innocent young citizens killed from March 2021 to date
2. Who spit on the 1500 innocent citizens who have been injured or mutilated since March 2021, sometimes dying like poor Baytir Fall who succumbed on February 29 from the tortures inflicted by the security forces 10 months earlier
3. Who spit on the 3000 innocent citizens who have been thrown into the dictator’s torture cages since March 2021, of whom nearly 1700 are still there
4. Who have either triggered, participated in, supported, justified, or minimized these killings and atrocities
5. Who hinder investigations or contribute to these obstacles in order to cover up serial killers and their sponsors
6. Who propose a general amnesty aimed at protecting killers, torturers, and their sponsors
When such people, who can be likened to psychopaths and who applaud when the blood and tears of innocents flow freely, suddenly express outrage after an assault that fortunately did not cost the victim’s life, there are then 3 possibilities:
1. Either they consider this victim to be part of their camp
2. Either it is a self-serving or propaganda-inspired outrage
3. Either they are behind or with the one behind this attack, presumably intended to be pinned on a common enemy
Indeed, the speed with which some of them quickly solved the investigation minutes after the announcement of the assault, by either directing the crime towards their archenemy Ousmane Sonko or by already claiming that MNF’s opinions were the motive for her attack, adds to the legitimate suspicion.
When a known kleptomaniac cries thief, first think to search his bag. The one he points at is certainly his victim or his whistleblower.
Unfortunately, once again, the press is already playing a dirty role, with selective outrage, and a haste just as suspicious as that of the gravediggers. And this is not new because:
1. During the demonstrations of March 2021 – June 2022 – March 2023 – May 2023 – June 2023 – July 2023, while dozens of young citizens were openly killed on the streets of Dakar, Ziguinchor, and other cities, while thousands were injured, mutilated, or rounded up to be tortured and thrown into prison, our televisions/radios/journalists (except for Walf and the foreign press) chose to play music or insipid shows at the same time, either on their own initiative or to please the Party-State author of these barbarities
2. On the other hand, when there was this attack on the Tata bus that caused 2 deaths, a tragic event that the Party-State suspiciously quickly publicized, even giving the impression of having prepared the cameras and the investigation conclusions before the event, this same press that plays clips when massacres are committed, distinguished itself with incredible zeal in covering this news, and imprudently embraced the Party-State’s talking points.
This press today greatly contributes to manipulation, falsification of the truth, and concealment of tragedies like the terrifying testimonies of the hundreds of hostages recently released. A hypocritical press, which wages war internally as never before, which counts among its ranks far more gravediggers and mythomaniacs than ever before. Its outrage is not only selective towards the population but also within itself.
** When Mame Birame Wathie and Pape Mactar Diallo are assaulted in broad daylight
** When Pape Sané survives an assassination attempt
** When Maty Sarr Niang, Pape Alé Niang, Babacar Touré, Serigne Saliou Gueye, Modou Ndiaye, Thioro Mandela are cowardly persecuted, arrested, or thrown into prison arbitrarily
They are only entitled to one or two lines in the miscellaneous section, or sometimes they are even criticized by their own colleagues. In the same way that the media refuses to cover the massacres of populations associated with Ousmane Sonko, they also refrain from drawing too much attention to defending colleagues who stand out for refusing to contribute to the Party-State’s dirty game on Ousmane Sonko.
MNF has the right to be defended by her colleagues and must be defended. But rigor, professionalism, and prudence would suggest that we do not so easily fall into the trap of haste or manipulation, especially since everyone is aware that this regime has become an expert in plots and manipulation.
This assault could be just one more in these insecure neighborhoods. It could be an act of settling scores. It could also have been orchestrated to be blamed on the one who prevents the gravediggers from sleeping. How many opponents or relatives of opponents have been assaulted, sometimes killed, in recent months, in the total indifference of the Party-State and the press? The monster is not always the Party-State, sometimes it is the press itself that cries out at the monster.
